Fingers Crossed

House hunting update: We went to see a Campus Habitat place tonight and were sorely disappointed. The place was kind of small and poorly lit, and also did not have on-site or even nearby laundry. Those things were turn-offs, but the big one was the current tenant whispering to Sarah "Don't do it, they're horrible!"

We've decided to keep our options open. There is another place we're seeing Friday that I'm sort of of half in love with but desperately trying not to get my hopes up. It's a little two bedroom house a few blocks from campus that looks really charming and wonderful. The reason I'm trying not to get my hopes up is because we're not sure the landlord wants to lease it for our time frame. On his craiglist ad he said he had been trying to sell it and decided to lease for a while instead and was looking for immediate tenants. I emailed him explaining that we're students looking to start a lease in June and asked if it was possible. He responded saying that it might be since he had a few people interested in leasing it for only the second semester of this year and we should definitely come to his showing. If it works out that someone else wants to lease it from now until June we might get this sweet place. But it really is a long shot so I shouldn't have even blogged about it.

Assuming we don't get the house, we're probably just going to wait until after winter break. We've only seen ads for a handful of places looking for June leases so our thoughts are that we're looking too early. We don't want to rush into a place that's a dive when we can wait it out and find a nicer one. Friends who have gotten apartments tell us that they didn't sign their leases until late winter or spring, so I think we have time.
